About Hazel

If it isn’t obvious, my favorite work of literature is Watership Down by Richard Adams. In this lovely book, rabbits are the main characters, and they go through hardships and adventures, relying on each other and being open to learning new things when they’re not sure they will succeed. Part of what makes Hazel a good leader of this intrepid band of rabbits is the willingness to take steps forward even in the face of doubt and fear.

The rabbits have their own language, and their word for food is “flay”. Adding the suffix “rah” to a word bestows a significant honorific, so “flayrah” is especially excellent food.

I have had the great privilege of being able to make a few career jumps in my life, always in pursuit of meaning, fulfillment, and a sense of producing something useful to others. I am an Electrical Engineer by education, an active and accomplished amateur violinist, and by profession I have been an IT consultant, a software quality manager in the biotech industry, and a high school math and physics teacher. I am an administrator of a summer chamber music conference, and I am a baker.
